Bi Rod for 3D Laser Scanning Survey
3D Laser Scanning Survey from high altitudes
In May this year, an exhibition dedicated for construction and survey industries called "Construction & Survey Productivity Improvement Expo" was held. At this exhibition a demonstration unit combining a 3D laser scanner and Bi Rod, a tripod for high altitude photography, was exhibited at the booth of Rex Corporation, a company that rents measuring, weighing, surveying instruments in Japan.
This article introduces a new way of utilizing Bi Rod, which would solve the problems of traditional surveying.
Surveying from high altitudes with Bi Rod to eliminate blind spots that are produced when using the ground-based 3D scanners
Bi Rod is generally used for high altitude photography and inspection with a camera mounted, but it can also be used with equipment other than cameras.
If a 3D scanner is mounted on Bi Rod, it can scan from the 7m high.
Scanning from a height of 7 meters above the ground can cover up for the blind spots produced when scanning from the ground.
Moreover Bi Rod makes it easy to scan over rooftops and beyond walls, which is conventionally difficult to do without a drone.
This surveying method does not require any application procedures and can be used indoors.
Bi Rod 6C-7500 + Tripod Set displayed at this expo is made of lightweight and highly rigid carbon, which minimizes wind-induced shaking when in use.
Bi Rod comes with carrying case, making it easy to carry.
The camera platform of Bi Rod series is equipped with a 1/4 inch thread used for general camera tripods, making it easy to connect to various types of equipment.
